Introduction
The Laxven Speed Recorders are an advanced and reliable solution designed for monitoring and recording critical speed, time, and distance parameters of locomotives. Developed specifically for Indian Railways, these systems ensure precise data collection and post-incident analysis, enhancing both operational safety and performance. Powered by the DC voltage available on Indian Railways’ locomotives, Laxven Speed Recorders are compatible with both DC and AC Electrical Multiple Units. The systems provide real-time monitoring and robust data storage, along with built-in alarms and visual indicators for the driver, ensuring seamless and proactive locomotive operation.

System Overview & Principle of Operation
Laxven Speed Recorders are designed to provide a reliable and accurate record of speed, time, and distance parameters of a locomotive. These systems are powered by DC voltage (50-140V) available in the locomotive, making them suitable for all Indian Railway DC/AC Electrical Multiple Locomotives.
The system records Speed vs. Distance, Speed vs. Time, and other critical data on a non-volatile memory at two locations, ensuring redundancy for post-incident analysis. It also features a digital display for real-time parameter monitoring and audio-visual alarms for exceeding speed limits or system malfunctions.
Each locomotive has two driver cabs:
- One cab is fitted with a Microcontroller-based Speed Recorder cum Indicator.
- The other cab has a Microcontroller-based Speed Indicator only.
- Communication between both units is established via the RS 485 protocol.
- Both units have an LCD display and an alphanumeric keypad for entering locomotive and driver parameters.
The system utilizes a speed sensor mounted on the axle, along with dynamic braking and coasting data, to compute and store real-time parameters. Warning LEDs and alarms notify the driver of deviations from specified parameters.
