Introduction
LAX2000 E-EMU is a microcontroller-based system designed specifically for Electric Multiple Units (EMU). The system monitors critical locomotive parameters with high reliability and accuracy. It displays data in the locomotive and triggers audio-visual alarms when parameters deviate from specified limits, prompting immediate corrective action. The recorded data is vital for post-incident analysis and monitoring the locomotive driver’s performance.
The LAX2000 E-EMU is a speed and energy recorder unit with a memory capacity of 8 hours of 1-second interval data and 45 days of 20-second interval data, stored in a circular FIFO format on a PCMCIA card. The data can be downloaded through an RS-232 serial port from the memory reader unit.
System Overview
The system operates as follows:
Speed Sensor Input: The system uses a signal generated from a speed sensor mounted on the axle to calculate all parameters.
Microcontroller-based System: The microcontroller computes and records speed, distance, and energy parameters continuously to the inbuilt memory and the plugged-in PCMCIA memory card.
Time Dimension: Time is provided by an onboard Real-Time Clock (RTC).
Data Display and Input: The system includes an LCD display and an alphanumeric keypad for entering driver and locomotive parameters.
Alerts: Warning LEDs and audible alarms alert the driver when parameters deviate from their set limits.
